Leh Ladakh Bike Rental & Bike Hire 2026: Rates, Rules & Complete Guide

Last updated: October 2026

Planning a Ladakh ride without bringing your own motorcycle? Renting in Leh is the simplest way to do Khardung La, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and Tso Moriri. This guide covers 2026 rental prices, the outside-bike rule that catches many riders out, documents, fees and the best bikes for each route.

Quick answer: Leh Ladakh bike rental costs roughly ₹800 per day for a scooter and ₹1,600–₹3,500 per day for Royal Enfield, Himalayan and KTM Adventure bikes. Bikes rented outside Leh (Manali, Srinagar, Delhi) can only be used to reach Leh, not for Nubra or Pangong sightseeing.

Leh Ladakh Bike Rental Price 2026

Rental rates in Leh are set by the Ladakh Bike Co-operative Limited, so prices are similar across registered shops. The figures below are the 2026 season minimums and approximate ranges. Always confirm the current rate card before booking.

BikeApprox. full day (₹)Half day (₹)
Automatic scooter (120cc)800500
Royal Enfield Classic / Meteor 3501,600–1,8001,000
Royal Enfield Classic 5001,8001,200
Royal Enfield Himalayan 4111,900–2,0001,200
Royal Enfield Himalayan 4502,500–3,5001,500
KTM Adventure 3902,500–3,0001,500
BMW G310 GSUp to 3,500—
  • Half-day rental usually starts from 2 PM.
  • Security deposit: expect roughly ₹5,000–₹10,000, refundable on return.
  • Riding gear is extra. A jacket costs around ₹400–₹500 per day, other items ₹100–₹800 per day.
  • Bargaining: shops that rent below the union rate can be fined, so heavy discounts usually mean a catch (no insurance cover, older bike).
Important rule for 2026: Bikes rented outside Leh, from Manali, Srinagar or anywhere else, are not allowed for sightseeing in Ladakh (Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri, Hanle). You can ride an outside-rented bike to Leh only. For local sightseeing, rent a second bike in Leh with a yellow commercial plate (LA registration). Some Manali operators discount the days the bike stays parked in Leh, so ask before you book.

Which Bike Is Best for Ladakh?

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 / 411

The most common pick for Ladakh. Comfortable seat, long-travel suspension and good control on gravel and water crossings. The 450 is the stronger all-rounder, the 411 is the proven older workhorse.

Royal Enfield Classic 350

Comfortable on tarmac and easy to get serviced, but heavier and harder work on steep, rough climbs, especially with a pillion.

KTM Adventure 390

Lighter and quicker, good for riders with experience who want performance. Gear and luggage space is more limited.

Bajaj Dominar 400

Good highway comfort and a budget touring option. Ground clearance is lower than the adventure bikes, so it suits the main tarmac circuits better than rough tracks.

Scooter

Fine for local Leh sightseeing and short trips. Not for high passes or long routes.

Documents Required for Bike Rental in Leh

  • Valid driving licence. Learner's licences are rejected by rental shops and army checkpoints.
  • Government ID (Aadhaar or similar). Many shops keep the licence as ID and address proof.
  • Security deposit as per shop policy.
  • Foreign riders: passport, valid visa and an International Driving Permit where applicable.

Ladakh Environment Fee and Permits for Riders

Indian tourists are charged an environment fee in Ladakh: ₹400 per person (one time), ₹20 per person per day wildlife fee, and an optional ₹50 Red Cross contribution. Per recent 2026 updates, Indian tourists no longer need a separate Inner Line Permit for the main tourist circuits, but you should still pay the fee and carry the receipt plus several copies of your ID at checkpoints. Remote areas such as Hanle may need a separate permit, and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.

Permit rules change. Confirm the latest requirements on the official Leh permit portal (lahdclehpermit.in) or with your travel planner before you ride.

Popular Bike Routes in Ladakh

Manali to Leh Bike Trip

One of India's most famous rides, passing Rohtang, Baralacha La, Sarchu and Tanglang La. Expect water crossings, rough patches, fast-changing weather and altitude. Allow at least two nights on the way and do not skip acclimatisation in Leh.

Srinagar to Leh

Better road surface overall, with Zoji La, Drass and Kargil on the way. Zoji La is narrow and busy, so start early.

Spiti Valley to Leh

For experienced riders only. Remote villages, long stretches without fuel and very rough terrain.

Leh Local Circuits

Leh to Nubra via Khardung La, Leh to Pangong, and Leh to Tso Moriri are the most popular day-by-day rides, all done on a Leh-registered rental.
